In the Mercedes Benz Super Bowl commercial, Satan is looking to make a deal.

As the Super Bowl approaches, all eyes will be fixed on the exciting commercials and Mercedes-Benz’ new ad makes a special tribute to Satan. Entitled “Soul”, the commercial features a young man who is offered a “deal with the Devil”, ( the Devil is played by film actor Willem Dafoe), where he can receive a new Mercedes-Benz, fame, wealth and pleasure in exchange for his soul. Once again the entertainment industry continues to bombard the minds of society with the lure of satanic rebellion against God. The video is below.

The commercial incorporates many satanic elements. In the teaser ad, a “hellhound” often associated with those who pledge their services to the devil, is seen barking outside of the diner. Famed Mississippi blues man Robert Johnson, a musician who is often credit as the “Father of Rock ‘n Roll”, was infamous for making the first music industry “deal with the devil” in Clarksdale, Mississippi (something he claimed to have done early in his career). After this supernatural encounter, Johnson went on to become one of the most legendary guitarists of all time. Despite his success, Johnson often complained of being plagued by demons. One of his famous songs on this subject is entitled “Hellhound On My Trail.”

Then the wind blows into the diner turning on the jukebox to play the song, Sympathy For The Devil, by the Rolling Stones, one of the most blatant odes to Satan in music history.

A satanic spirit enters the diner.

The lyrics begin:

Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a mans soul and faith
And I was round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

With a very clear reference to stealing souls, faith and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, this song is clearly referring to Satan.  The song soon makes it clear by using the name for the devil, Lucifer, used in the Bible in Isaiah 14:

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
Cause I’m in need of some restraint

 

Additionally, at the :13 mark in the video Dafoe is shown wearing both a Freemasonic ring. The satanic contract, which contains an inverted chi-ro (the symbol the Catholic Church uses), contains the phrase “Seal Placed of  The Master, The Devil and The  Demons.”

This is not the deal to make.

The ad closes by instructing the viewer to “set your soul free” and the number “13″ going up in flames.

The Price of Fame – Selling Your Soul For Riches

A subtle reference to the All-Seeing Eye of Lucifer?

The ad, while trying to be humorous does allude to what the entertainment industry has long whispered about: the selling of one’s soul to Satan for untold success. Many artists through the years have made reference to it. Here are several examples:

Bob Dylan  ( in a very frank admission that it is because of Satan that he is still performing.)

The “deal with the Devil” seems like a very frightening and eerie ritual. But what is always left out in the discussion is that since all people are born sinning and continue to sin through their life, sinful humanity is under Satan’s influence already. Ephesians Chapter 2 makes this clear:

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. – Ephesians 2:1-3.

The Apostle Paul, writing to Christians in Ephesus told them “you” meaning Christians, were once unsaved sinners. All people who do not have saving faith in Jesus Christ are subject to the “prince of the power of the air” – a title for Satan. And have his spiritual influence in them. This is reflected in the sinful behavior, lack of repentance and concern for God seen in much of society today. So even without a contract, a person in this situation is under condemnation to spend eternity in Hell with Satan when they die (and notice in the commercial, even though the young man turns down the deal he still plans on getting the Mercedes-Benz and “everything that comes with it”).

The Garden of Eden – The Original Deal With The Devil

The ad highlights the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

Eternal punishment is the consequence of the curse of our sin – going all the way back to the first two people on Earth. In The Garden of Eden, Satan made his first “deal” with Eve, the first woman.

Now the serpent was more [subtle] than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. – Genesis 3:1-6.

By promising her secret knowledge to become like a god, Satan deceived Eve into breaking God’s commands not to eat from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, bringing sin, death and God’s judgment to the world. Satan, a far older and experienced being than any human, uses the same 3 seductions to lure humanity into sin: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:16).  Once Satan put the seed of doubt in Eve’s mind she then noticed the fruit was “pleasant to the eyes”, “good for food” and “a tree to be desired to make one wise.” She could satisfy her hunger. She could have something that looked good to her eyes. And she could boast in the divine wisdom she was going to supposedly obtain. This the main tactic of Satan’s system of temptation in the world since creation. And human being after human being has fallen for it, leading to sin and God’s judgment abiding over them.

But God, in His Mercy, made a plan for redemption, by bringing a promised Messiah into the world, Jesus Christ, who would conquer the Devil and provide a way to permanent forgiveness for humanity.

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. – Romans 5:6-10.

Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, gave His life as a ransom and payment for sinful humanity who have been held hostage by sin and the Devil’s seduction. Satan even tried to challenge Jesus Christ while he was on Earth by offering a “deal”:

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. – Matthew 4:1-11.

Satan tempted Jesus with the same 3 lusts: lust of the flesh (making stones into bread to satisfy his hunger), lust of the eyes (having every Kingdom of the world) and the pride of life (showing off his Divine powers). But Jesus resisted the Devil by standing on The Word of God and believing it over the Devil’s empty promises. Ultimately, Satan wants to be God and this is why He wanted Jesus to worship him. But for most people, the temptation  to sin will come in a far more subtle manner. As with Eve, Satan will look to whatever makes you happy in life and offer it. Whether it is money, a new car, sexual pleasure, drugs or revenge, The Devil will set up the temptation  as long as it brings you into rebellion against God.

Satan wants celebrities to appear to be on top of the world.

Just as Satan offered Jesus the kingdoms of the world, so too does he dangle fame and wealth to the many multimillionaire celebrities who use their entertainment to promote his sinful agenda. A star does not have to be a member of a secret society to be “Illuminati” – they just have to be willing to do Satan’s bidding. And this is shown as pop culture has gone out of its way to promote rebellion, promiscuity, drugs, violence and the occult. [B&E:  Willem Dafoe, who plays Satan in the commercial, played the role of Jesus Christ in the movie The Last Temptation of Christ one of the most blasphemous portrayals of Jesus ever made. He also starred in the movie Antichrist, a film in which his character's wife was supposed to be a Satan-type character.]

The Bible warns: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” – 1 Peter 5:8.

Satan wants to bring as many people to hell with him as possible. And all that takes is keeping the hearts and minds of people far from God and His Word. The farther a person gets from God, and looking to their own wants and desires, the less the consequences of their sin will matter. So while the deal may seem sweet for a season, the end result is destruction. Do not be deceived.

As we have detailed at Beginning and End, Hollywood has become bolder and bolder when it comes to promoting an anti-Christian message. The message of pop culture is embodied in the Mercedes Benz ad – live for the moment, seek fame, wealth and satisfy any lust you have. The Devil wants humanity to believe that there is no purpose in life and no consequence to sin. But the Bible gives the truth, that ultimately Satan wants to destroy humanity or have them worship him. This world, and all its riches are fleeting. Satan has been judged and will burn in Hell for eternity.  Jesus Christ is returning to restore order and righteousness and all the wealth and fame of today will be gone. But your soul will remain and be judged. This is why Jesus said: “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” No riches today are worth eternal torment in hell.

The Fallen Star – The Part  Satan Wants You To Forget

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! - Isaiah 14:12.

Although celebrities appear to “have it all” and be “gods” and “goddesses” to the unwitting masses, many of them live tortured lives marked by tragic, untimely deaths.  Pop singer Amy Winehouse is a recent example of a mega-star who while having all of the fame and money the world can offer, ended up dying in tragic circumstances after battles with substance abuse. Winehouse died at the age of 27, an age at which so many of the biggest icons in pop culture have died there is actually a nickname – “The 27 Club.”  Among the celebrities that have died at this age are Jim Morrison of the Doors, legendary rocker Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain of the grunge rock group Nirvana. [B&E: Robert Johnson, mentioned above, also died at the age of 27].

And there are many more celebrities who spent their final days in deep depression, addicted to drugs and alcohol and miserable about life (Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, possibly the two biggest stars of all time, for example). Just like Satan, who was once a glorious angel working for good, before turning evil and being punished by God,  a large number of stars experience a tragic fall.  But by the time this happens, the entertainment industry has brought forth a new crop of stars for society to idolize and forget the “has-beens” of yesteryear. So even in this life, the “deal” is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Make The Right Deal

“Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you..” – James 4:8.

“This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” – Luke 22:20.

When Jesus Christ announced these words just before His death on the cross, He was establishing a Divine Deal, or covenant, between God and humanity. Jesus willingly sacrificed Himself on the cross to take the punishment for the sins of all of humanity. He bore the wrath and shame that all people deserve (this author included) and died. But in His resurrection from the dead He has won victory for all people who put their faith in Him. That is the deal that every person has to make or reject. Doing nothing with Satan but ignoring God will still lead to eternal suffering alongside Satan. But believing in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins guarantees eternal life in paradise (even for those in the occult or who may have made a “Satanic deal” in their past). There are riches in eternity. There are mansions in Heaven. And there is true peace and joy. And it just takes faith in Jesus Christ.  That is the deal that The Lord is offering all people:

 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. – Isaiah 1:18.

With Illuminati-themed ads airing on television’s biggest night, now is the time for Christians to share the Gospel with even more urgency.  There truly are souls at stake.
