Gay Activist Dan Savage Attacks Christian Teens At “Anti-Bullying” Event

May 3, 2012 By Beginning and End

Dan Savage Gay Activist | Homosexuality Sin in the Bible

Dan Savage was the only bully at the "Anti-Bullying" Workshop.

Homosexual Activist Dan Savage, head of the ‘It Gets Better Project’ (which is endorsed by the Obama Administration), unleashed a stream of venomous anti-Christian hate, at what was supposed to be an “Anti-Bullying” speech at The National High School Journalism Convention, an event for High School students aspiring to be journalists. Savage’s blasphemous bullying was so intense, that large numbers of students walked out in protest (a video clip from the speech is below).

The Convention hosted jointly by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association, was designed to provide workshops on real-life journalistic experiences. Savage, the keynote speaker for a workshop described: “Student journalists cover a world where bullying, harassment and hazing are part of their experience..”

Instead of discussing the problem of bullying, Savage opened by asking the students if they were using contraception. He then proceeded to talk about his husband and fantasies about him. Following this Savage launched into a tirade against the Bible and its calling homosexuality a sin.

“We can learn to ignore the bulls— in the Bible about gay people,” he pronounced, “the same way we have learned to ignore the bulls— in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation. We ignore bulls— in the Bible about all sorts of things.” (source)

Savage then attempted to paint the Bible as a “radically pro-slavery document”, in an effort to show moral inconsistency in the Scriptures. This argument, often used by Bible skeptics, attempts to manipulate the listener by false and deceptively making “slavery” in the ancient Middle East sound like the equivalent to the brutal, horrific slavery of Africans in the Americas and Europe from the 17th-19th centuries, when they were nothing alike. Slavery in the time of the Old Testament was done as a means of paying off debt, was not race based and was not done by kidnapping. Slaves in ancient times lived in their own home on the master’s property, were able to raise their families, received wages and often voluntarily stayed on after the debt was paid in order to continue to enjoy the security living on the property of a wealthy landowner could provide. Many students were stunned and hurt by Savage’s hateful attacks. “I never felt more hurt, felt persecuted,” said 17 year old Haley Mulder. “For me, my faith is what I want to be defined by. For someone to say it was B.S. is really hurtful. I felt put down and bullied because of my faith.”

Homosexuality in the Bible

Student Walks out on Dan Savage | Homosexuality in The Bible

Student Jake Naman walks out in protest of Savage's attacks on Christianity.

The Bible is clear, in the New Testament, that homosexuality is a sin. Jesus Christ defined marriage himself:

And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. – Matthew 19:4-6

Romans Chapter 1 outlines the descent of a sinner into what is called a “reprobate spirit” where refusal to obey The Lord turns into outright anger and hatred towards God:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. (Romans 1)

As the Bible states, the sinner knows God exists but chooses to reject God, which leads to that person making themselves God of their own lives. This is what Scripture calls “vain imaginations.” God works with us by giving us a conscience to know right and wrong but we can go to a point where The Lord will give us up to our own ways and that leads to the sexual sins.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: (Romans 1)

Watching the video of Savage, this description captures his behavior. His malice, hatred and wickedness were on full display. Pray for the students who were persecuted to heal emotionally and continue in their faith to stand for the Bible and Christian principles.

But the good news is, like any straight person, Savage is loved by God. The Bible says God is “.. not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). Pray for Savage to look to Jesus Christ who provides free forgiveness for all sins and to receive a born again Spirit to replace the anger and bitterness he harbors. Jesus was bullied and did not “hit back.” Jesus was taunted, beaten and killed by bullies so that Dan Savage could have a chance to live eternally. And that is what the Bible is about. We are all guilty. We are all condemned by the law. But Jesus provides freedom from sin and grace from God. Let’s pray that Mr. Savage starts to realize that.

I may be wrong, but I don’t believe that Savage went there to discuss journalism and bullying, per se. I think he went there with an agenda of trying to indoctrinate those students into believing that homosexuality is not a sin, is ok. I can tell this by the fact that he tried to “romanticize” (for lack of a better word) homosexuality by speaking on his “husband”. It was really perverted of him to introduce those children into some imagined sex act between himself and his “husband” – saying that if his “husband” was present and on stage, ‘they (the children) would have to pull him off of him’. Just pathetic. This man’s conscience is so seared.

People like him have a lot of nerve. Homosexuals are always talking about how they’re so persecuted and bullied, but they will be the first to persecute and bully and hold a grudge against someone else who does not have interest in what they are espousing about what they do. The fact of the matter is that God has already judged homosexuality to be an abomination and there is nothing they can do or say that will change the Word of God. Had I been there at this conference, I wouldn’t have walked out. I’d have stood up and rebuked that wicked spirit in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Great article B&E. Thanx for keeping us well informed. I often wonder if there are ex-gays, men or women that can speak that this homosexual thing is a spirit ? I never really hear about people that turn to Christ and are not gay anymore. Why are they silent?

God will deal with this man and other militant homosexuals in his own time and way. I personally feel he is too far gone to have a change of mind and heart. Reminds me of the homosexuals that came to Lots door and demanded they send the men out so they could “know” them. I believe we are that close to Jesus return. Don’t see how things can go on much longer…..

@YouNeedSchooling.You wrote,”I’d have stood up and rebuked that wicked spirit in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.”Iam with you on that. It’s kind of funny how homosexuals go on and on about, how they are tolerant and that people should be tolerant, but what they really mean is that people should be tolerant to everyone, except to the bible beliving christians. But I take comfort in the more that everyone seems to attack and hate born again christians.Because the more this behavoir gets worse,it only means that we will be with our savior,Jesus Christ sooner rather than later. It seems to me like the rapture of the church is imminent. So stay strong in your faith in Jesus Christ,my fellow born again christians. And encourage other christians to stay strong in Jesus Christ as well.God Bless.

you all are right! nothing more to add except I will keep fighting the good fight! I am not sinless but I have a saviour who WILL find me blameless when I repent (acknowledging MY sin), washing those sins into the sea of forgetfulness…praise be to God. Our persecution will be long and hard but the servant is not greater than the Master!

unfortunately sometimes there is nothing we can do for such people who have their hearts hardened towards the true and living God. It happened to Pharaoh and the Bible says it will happen to some of mankind again. I will pray for my fellow brothers that we don’t grow wearing in our well doing. Jesus is coming and I want to meet all of you on that day. Cheers!

Not all homosexuals condemn people with Christian beliefs, so it’s kind of unfair for you to act like all of them do just because this one person did. One person does not represent the majority.

This is nothing new. The same type of radical protest against God’s laws took place right before the flood. It was also taking place right before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

What does Savage’s anti-biblical teaching tell us? That we are right at the door of Christ’s return in Judgment!

I know this is a christian website but just for perspective, if he is against what he considers religious intolerance then he should have thrown the Qur’an int there. He may be mad but he ain’t crazy. He is talking trash alright, but he didn’t go there because he is counting on the christians to be – like Christ.

He did not even speak on journalism , the subject he was hired to do. This is the radical agay agenda , to try and INFRINGE on others RIGHTS . He should have mentioned the other religions of other countries in which if he had be speaking as he did , he would not be alive today. He only attacks one religion, therefore he is a hypocrite of the worse kind. He is disgusting and should never be allowed to be around children in a forum again..shame on the organizers !

its amazing how tolerance gos right out the window. The group thats been wanting tolerance for so long no turns around and spews intolerance themselves but wants to hide behind i was bashed so i gives me the right to be angry and hateful when in actually your just become the very thing you hate. but when your in the flesh your bound by ignorance so we must pray not to turn around and hate them but love them and give them to God for He is the only righteous Judge and can touch their hearts more than we can.but i must say it is a major double standard when it comes to our beliefs an theirs they want tolerance and acceptance while we deserve silence but u can never silence the voice of God

Hi I wasn’t gonna comment till I saw some other people’s comments. I am pansexual and I’m a follower of God and Jesus Christ. I do realize that by some people’s standards I am sinning my doesnt everyone. I know that God forgives me and that he still loves me. This guy is horrific though to have the audacity to talk about Christians who are “bullying him” and “shoving their beliefs down his throat” when he is being so hypocritical about it. Because that’s exactly what he’s doing. Yes I am pansexual, but I’m not going to hate on anyone for no reason because everyone (not just Christians as a group) are entitled to their own oppinions.

    • Beginning and End says

      Hi Jade,

Thanks for your comments. I would like to respond and say that “some people’s standards” on sexual sins do no matter at all. Neither do my standards for sexual behavior matter. All that matters are God’s standards. And God’s standards are quite clear that sex outside of marriage is a sin and that marriage is between one man and one woman. Anything outside of the Biblical marital relationship is fornication and sin.

Here is a passage I encourage you to consider:

Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. – 1 Corinthians 6.

If you are a true born again Christian then you should understand that your body is not yours. Making declarations about your sexuality that are in contradiction to God’s guidance on sexual relations is open rebellion against The Lord. If you are struggling with sexual sinful desires, then repent and seek God’s Spirit to help you overcome them. But thinking that you can live with a blatant sinful lifestyle and be in God’s will, that is wrong. I don’t want to assume too much from your one brief comment (it seemed like you were okay with your pansexuality and not declaring it a sin), but I want to make sure you are aware of what the Biblical standards are on the issue of sexuality. I look forward to your response. -B&E

I agree on savage on one thing the pount he makes on ignoring certain scriptures in the bible while obeying others. The bible states a lot of things and most people sadly call themselves christians yet pick and choose what parts of the bible to follow -so if you a person of god then follow the bible to the letter. God wants a woman to b3 a virgin on her wedding day and manys aspects of a wedding symbolizes a man taking a womans virginity. The white dress respresents purity, the lifting of the veil respresnts the man taking her virginity along with the cutting of the cake. Yet often seen both women and men non virgins getting married. If a women is found not to be a virgin she is to be stone and there is also mention of a rapist paying the brideprice for the girl or marrying her. If the virgin and man are found to be guilty of sex they both shall be stone.

So yes people become rather choosy when it comes to the bible
