“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28.
Could this be true? Could “all things” really be working for the good in life for all born again Christians? Are “all things” at this very moment working for your good? Believe it to be true, beloved. But then how can we see the truth in this verse when we are suffering today with stress, health issues, relationship problems or financial distress? How can we say “everything’s working for me!” when we feel like the entire world is against us? The Apostle Paul makes the answer clear. It is because we are to live after the Spirit of God that is within us and not our flesh. “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:13-14).
If our worldly troubles are the sum of our lives, then we will die most miserable. But if we put the focus on our Heavenly blessings which we received the moment we put our faith and full trust in Christ, then we are now true children of God and able to call The Lord “Abba, Father.” “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” The glory that awaits will be an immortal, Heavenly body that will never get sick, never suffer pain and never grow old. It will be living in mansions in Heaven before returning to Earth to rule and reign with Christ in the Millennium. It will be eternal deliverance from depression, death, suffering and hatred. This is the “good” that really matters, because it’s eternal. And until that glorious day, when we are transformed to glory in the twinkling of an eye, we have the Holy Spirit of God in us, who “knows our infirmities” making intercession to the Father on our behalf to help us through our present, brief troubles.
So rejoice Christian! If you are a true, born again believer, you are redeemed, justified and declared a co-heir with the Savior. You have received eternal life. Your present day problems are nothing compared to the glorious future that awaits you. So go to God with your worries in prayer but always remember that there is a much better hope that you can rest on than the wealthiest, healthiest, most fabulous unsaved person in the world. While they are resigned to a temporary “great life” and a bleak eternity lest they repent, all things are truly working for your good, eternally. So again I say, rejoice! Continue to love God and continue to live your life according to His purpose. His Divine plan for you is already at work.
