In 2010 the movie “Legion” was released. It purported in its introduction to depict the end of the world or the Apocalypse of the Bible. But it’s nothing but a perfect example of end-time deception that seeks to distort the Bible and draw people away from God and Jesus Christ.
Here is the trailer:
Well first off, the main problem with the movie’s trailer is that it’s completely un-biblical. It’s just taking people and themes from the Bible and making up stories about them to pass it off like it’s in the Bible when it’s not. In fact, the movie is actually blasphemous in many ways.
All throughout the Bible, Gabriel and Michael are good angels. Gabriel is a messenger who delivered the news of Christ being born
Luke 1: 26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee , named Nazareth , 27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Michael, an Archangel, is the angel assigned to protect the nation of Israel . Not only does he never rebel against God, it is he who kicks Satan out of Heaven in the book of Revelation.
Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Michael opposes Satan and his evil, fallen angels (the beings who truly want to destroy and enslave humanity!). He is completely obedient and faithful to God. Legion of course distorts this by making Michael a rebellious angel who in his desire to escape from a tyrannical God, flees Heaven, cuts off his wings and joins up with humanity. This is nothing short of a complete distortion of Scripture that casts The Lord in a negative light while elevating the idea of rebellion against God which is the essence of all sinful behavior.
God “Losing Faith” in humanity
This is also a falsehood being given by this film. The premise of the whole movie is that God, as a result of losing faith in people, is now sending angels to destroy them. However, the Bible says the exact opposite. God is not “losing faith” in humanity at all. In fact he wants us all to live forever with Him!
2 Peter 3: 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
God does not want us to die or go to hell! He loves and cherishes us. So why doesn’t it always feel like that? Because of our sin. Due to our sin, we have become separated from God. But God, out of his love, provided a way that we can be reconciled to Him.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us so that the punishment we should receive for our sins would fall on Him. Jesus became a sin-bearer for us. When we put our faith in Him as our Savior we are saved! That’s how simple salvation is.
The Second Coming
Although it’s only hinted at in the trailer, the unborn baby that Michael is trying to protect is the supposed “Messiah” who will one day save the world. Again, this is nowhere in the Bible. Jesus took on human form as a baby in a manger 2,000 years ago. It’s not going to happen again. When Jesus returns it is not going to be as a baby. He is full grown and will look that way. And it’s not going to be a private event. Everyone will know.
Matthew 24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Notice the accuracy of The Word of God. Jesus knew this would happen. He warned that there will be imposters and people claiming they know where Christ is or that they are Him. But we are not to believe it because when comes back, everyone is going to see Him coming and know it’s Him.
The Real Villain is missing! Or is he..??
Notice who is conspicuously absent from this trailer? Satan! With all the fighting, demons and machine guns, The devil is nowhere to be found. And that’s just how he likes it. Satan has set up a system in this world that tempts us to sin so much, without putting blame on him. He has set up a world where suffering, pain and death are blamed on God while be don’t pin anything on him.
Satan is the fallen angel who rebelled against God. So in essence, the character “Michael” in this movie is Satan. And He is trying to tell Lucifer/Satan’s story all over again. A fallen angel who was once good, who has rebelled and now wants to “liberate” humanity from an angry, oppressive God. This is the same lie the devil told Eve in the garden:
Genesis: 3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
See what he did? He took God’s word and turned it around (with a subtle lie) to trick Eve.
This movie is depicting exactly what the devil attempts to do: lure us into rebellion against God under the guise of a “good cause.” All the while elevating himself and making God look bad. This movie is a classic case of deception that takes the Bible and tries to turn it upside down and sell it as real.
The real end of the Apocalypse is Jesus returning to Earth on a cloud with his angels and saints. He defeats the antichrist and his false prophet with the brightness of His coming and the breath of His mouth. He also imprisons Satan, brings back peace and righteousness and reigns for 1,000 years. God wins. End of story.
We have no need to be deceived or scared by misinformation like this. We just need to look to The Lord and His Word to know the Truth!
Fight The Good Fight Ministries has also done an excellent video on the movie Legion and its rampant and intentional Biblical distortions:
while what a site to see Jesus Christ coming back and all his glory, that the only real hope we have as Christian the bible will continue to reveal it self and we must continue to the faith Mark16:16 He that believe and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believe not shall be damned. God Bless
Now I understand why I never could grasp the concept of this movie, yet I still watched it “to see the old lady crawling on the wall”.
My intuition told me something about it just wasn’t right and it was the way the angels and God is depict in the movie. I need to start trusting my intuition.
People like you read into these movies way too much. It is meant to ENTERTAIN not to twist the of Christians. There is no evil motive in a fictional movie.
Jay Allen says
never watched it so don’t care but Rick you may have a point there…..
TEDDY BEAR says
Gabriel is fallen, Only Michael and his angels come to aid of Jesus. Gabriel also told Mohammad a pack of lies so start that religion off. Lucifer was a good Angel at one point and is most famous of all the fallen angels. Angels can fall and many did. MICHAEL is an archangel and his angels subordinates come to aid of Jesus. Gabriel does not stand with Jesus in the final battle is lost. Hence all the fallen Angel Gabriel references are for a reason. Michael is always the good Angel.
Blair Brown says
I confess to not knowing my Bible as well as I should, but I can’t recall a specific Biblical passage that explicitly states that God kicked Gabriel-or any other angel-out of Heaven after the Fall.
In fact, according to the Gospel of Luke(Luke 1:11–38),it was Gabriel that announced to Mary that she was chosen to bear the Messiah, and works alongside Michael to watch Isreal.
If I have somehow missed something,I look forward to your correction.
