It is interesting to read of these earlier accounts post John’s day. Judging by these accounts, as given, there is a consensus of witness that Genesis 6 was to be read as fallen angelic fornication with the daughters of Adam and Eve. Who knows if even Adam saw some of this..
We do not really understand the powers that were given to the angelic beings, of which there were a number of classes – Seraphim and Cherubim for example. They are greater in power than any man as Jude states.
It is plain that the angelic host in general had marvellous abilities, adn varying functions and authority, as we can read throughout Scripture. Angels have power of the winds on earth; others have power over the sun; others are only to glorify God in the immediate presence of God, and so on.
Paul tells us in Romans that the gifts and callings of God are without repentance, meaning, once given then they are for the sole use of the receiver, at the command of God of course, who is Ruler over all.
It is plain from Abraham’s account and Lot’s account in Genesis 18, 19 that angels could appear every bit as men (never women), and eat the food of mankind.
The angels that rebelled with Lucifer, including that one, did not lose their giftings from God, but rather became perverted, and totally void of any glory and beauty, honour and dignity. The very nature of these created beings was changed to the other extreme, to complete disharmony, dischord and vileness to the endth degree.
They had power originally to choose, to be faithful or to rebel. It is my belief this was a once off choice, and once made could never be recinded, reversed, repented of.
But from those who fell out with Lucifer, there were some who chose to sink further into rebellion, by transgressing the boundary of their habitat, and transforming, if that is the right word, into men for the purpose of alluring women, in order to steal, kill and destroy.
But what we need to do is to trust in Jesus Christ who alone is able to save us and any one of men who will humble themselves under God’s mighty hand, calling on the name of Jesus and come to Him for their eternal safety. Acts 2:38
